The winners of the 2014 Book Collecting Contest are:
First place, $300
Audrey Golden (Ph.D. program, Dept. of English) for “Pablo Neruda and the Global Politics of Poetry”
Second place, $150
Stephanie Kingsley (M.A. program, Dept. of English) for “A Collection of Early Editions of Mercedes of Castile, by James Fenimore Cooper”
Honorable Mention, $75
Caitlin Conley (MA candidate, Dept of English) for “Collecting Stuart Little“
Winner of the BSUVA Rare Book School Fellowship
As first-place winner, Ms. Golden will be entering the National Collegiate Book Collecting Contest to compete for their first prize of $2,500.
The contest results were announced at the Society’s Annual Meeting held in the auditorium of the Harrison Institute/ Small Special Collections Library on Friday, March 21, 2014.
Ten students, from third year through Ph.D. candidates, submitted entries to the 2014 Book Collecting Contest. The collections covered a range of topics including “Steamer” editions of Jules Verne, Russian novels, Judaica, and the novels of Brian Moore.
All the contestants received gift certificates generously donated by twelve local booksellers.
Selections from the winning collections will be on display in the Harrison Institute/Small Special Collections Library at the University through April.
