The winners of the 2022 Book Collecting Contest are:
- First place, $1,000, and a Rare Book School Fellowship —Austin Benson, “The Little Office[s] of Our Lady, 1599–1966: Online Book Collecting during the COVID-19 Pandemic”
- Second place, $600—Cherrie Kwok, “Postcolonial Ephemera: Collecting Fragments of Decadent Hong Kong
- Honorable Mention, $300—Rebecca Barry, “Expanding Generic Bounds of Space-Time: 150 Years of Speculative and Science Fiction”
As first-place winner, Mr. Benson is eligible to enter the National Collegiate Book Collecting Contest to compete for their first prize of $2,500.
The awards were announced at the Annual Meeting of the Bibliographical Society on Friday, March 18. Contestants received gift certificates generously donated by seven local booksellers.
Fourteen students, from second year through Ph.D. candidates, submitted entries to the 2022 Book Collecting Contest. The collections covered a range of topics including twentieth century female authors, Newar Buddhism, and the works of Nietzsche and of J. R. R. Tolkien.
